643Detroit Canvasback ca. 1910

I love the pose of this bird. The head is set back with a relaxed feel. Like many Michigan decoys, he has a very finely-crafted head with glass eyes. He is solid carved, probably made for the heavy, open water in the St. Clair Flats. The surface is outstanding with original, dry, old crazed paint. His original keel is attached. He has minor wear from honest gunning use. There is a brand in small letters, RS, unknown to me. The bird has been in a private collection for the past 30 years.
